ASMPT SMT Solutions is part of the ASMPT Group (ASM Pacific Technology Inc.) headquartered in Singapore. ASMPT SMT goes back to a former Siemens division that has been producing placement machines since the 1980s, since 1993 under the brand name SIPLACE, which is still used today. The ASMPT Group took over this division in 2011. ASMPT SMT Solutions currently has around 15,000 employees and 30 branches.
In electronics manufacturing, every production chain is only as strong as its weakest link. To manufacture electronic devices, long production lines must function perfectly and without gaps. This is why the rapid elimination of faults is a particularly high priority. ASMPT SMT Solutions now uses Factory Chat, which was developed jointly with elunic, to find solutions quickly across all plants.
The company produces at three locations in Germany, the UK and Singapore. SMD placement machines and other machines for SMT production are manufactured there. ASMPT SMT Solutions has been equipping the systems on offer with white-label software tailored to electronics production since 2019. The company itself also uses Factory Chat in its own production.
With Factory Chat, both the employees responsible for the machines and the machines themselves record observed faults and solutions in the system. The team members in the factories also enter shift reports and other information. Thanks to access to a cross-location knowledge database, employees in the plants can use the experience of their colleagues at other locations to speed up troubleshooting. In addition, the system is able to suggest solutions thanks to its constantly growing smart troubleshooting database.
Microsoft Azure is used as the central cloud instance. These servers are used to exchange documents and store the knowledge databases. Azure also facilitates communication between the German, English and Chinese-speaking teams through automatic translations.
Both production-relevant information generated automatically by the machines in the plant and manually by employees is displayed in a time-sorted timeline.
The system draws on a constantly growing, smart fault resolution database across all locations to enable employees to resolve faults using self-service
Shift reports that can be automatically generated in the system remain visible and analyzable within the platform for all authorized persons.
